HOW To Calculate A BASEBALL OR SOFTBALL PITCH While Using POCKET RADAR

The Pocket Radar is a revolutionary, innovative design in ultra-compact and low-power speed radar. It offers the capability to do more things than a classic radar gun, once you understand how it is different.

The Pocket Radar was made to be capable of calculating a baseball or softball with a good radar reflection from as much as 120 ft away.
Not all balls are made similar. Some reflect radar much better than others. To record an accurate speed reading on a baseball or softball, it is important to learn how to trigger the revolutionary Pocket Radar.
The moment the red button is pressed the radar triggers and takes a series of very quick measurements (each about 1/50th of a second), to some degree just like the individual frames in a short movie clip. This sequence happens in about half a second.
Next the system within the device analyzes all of the measurement data and sorts out what was the pitcher's arm and body movement vs . what was the ball. For this to operate optimally, it is important to press and release the button before the ball leaves the pitcher's hand.

Unlike other radar guns, don't hold the button down. Rather you need to quickly "Press and Release" the red button once the pitcher is about mid-way through their throwing motion, prior to the ball's release. This step is comparable to the idea of starting a stopwatch timer before the ball is released. This will provide you with a precise reading of the peak speed of the ball out of the pitcher's hand.
If you are accustomed to the other radar guns, this might require a few measurements to get at ease with the timing of the trigger.
We recommend getting used to the timing at a closer range before moving out to the maximum range. If you notice readings that don't look right to you, experiment with hitting the button slightly earlier or slightly later.

The Pocket Radar will display the top speed seen during the measurement sequence after each button push. When it does not find a valid speed it will display "- - -".
There is no need to clear the display. The last speed will stay on the screen for 30 seconds or until the button is pressed again and a new speed is displayed. The little black RECALL button can be used to read theprevious10 speed readings.

Keeping the button down is not best for recording an accurate pitch speed since you're not controlling the timing of when the measurement takes place. In cases like this you might measure the ball right after it's slowed down, or you could measure the motion of the swinging bat or even the catcher rather than ball.

If you hold the button down too long, and don't release it in time, the measurement sequence will do it again again every ¾ of a second.
Holding the button down is an excellent function if you'd like to track your runners. For example, whenever a player takes off after hitting the ball to run to 1st base, you can actually track their speed and acceleration all the way past first base.
By using the recall function that stores the final ten speeds, you can show them when they slowed down before crossing the base. Numerous coaches find this to be a valuable training tool for young players. This can also be very helpful for evaluations at try-outs.

The Pocket Radar projects a narrow ray of invisible radio waves shaped like a flashlight beam. You need to point the radar beam at what you would like to evaluate exactly like you point a flashlight at what you need to light up.
To obtain a precise measurement, it is important to keep the radar beam in line with the route of the ball through this whole sequence of quick measurements as described above.
Make sure the Pocket Radar is in line with the pitcher and catcher. Keep in mind, if you cannot see the ball, the radar cannot see the ball either.

HOW DOES POCKET RADAR  Compare With THE OTHER LARGER RADAR GUNS?

The majority of hand held radar units are known as radar guns because they are used like a pistol.
They contain a radar transmitter which uses a long antenna known as a horn. Inside the radar it actually appears to be a horn or a megaphone.
To target the radar beam it needs to be long and the radar gun needs to be big enough to fit the horn inside.
Pocket Radar utilizes a group of many small flat antennas working collectively to generate similar type of targeted beam that the horn creates.
Due to this, and many other proprietary new inventions, it provides the key advantage of great performance in a really small size. This allows it to be utilized very discretely without drawing attention and perhaps altering the behavior of the players. It also makes it simple to take with you anywhere.

It uses a lot less energy than other radar guns.
The Pocket Radar can make over 10,000 speed readings from a single set of 2 AAA alkaline batteries.
Pocket Radar was created to provide you with a very useful range for an affordable price in a really convenient and easy to carry size.
This means you will be able to take it anywhere and have it with you when it's needed. The Pocket Radar also has a significantly faster turn-on than other radar guns. It can go from completely off and in your pocket to a speed reading in less than a second.

Pocket Radar is designed to work efficiently in all types of coaching and training circumstances.
It can easily measure a baseball pitch from behind the pitcher or from the backstop on 90 foot baseball fields, but it is not meant for use sitting back in the stands as a fan at a baseball game.
While it has less range than the more expensive guns, it has longer range than the cheaper radar guns.

Used correctly, the Pocket Radar will give you the same accurate measurements as the larger sized more expensive radar guns.
However, it doesn't have quite as much range as the most costly radar guns. If you really need to capture the speed of a baseball right off the pitcher's hand from a very long distance away or if you need to measure speed with a resolution of 0.1 mile/hour, then perhaps you should look at a much more expensive radar gun. For the vast majority of coaching applications, the Pocket Radar provides a very mobile and economical solution that is much more handy and extremely easy to use.
